We have delivered multiple doodles to the area. Depending on the customer needs and the availability we have flown into both LAX and SNA. Obviously we prefer to fly into John Wayne because it is smaller and for many of the places we have delivered it makes the most sense. However, flying into Los Angeles also works for us because our closest airport flies non-stop through LAX. When flying with puppies or even older dogs we always keep the travel time in mind. We never want to set a puppy up for failure or embarrass ourselves. I know people often scoff at Spirit, but they offer nonstop flights to LAX and if you get the big seats in the front it is hard to beat the price to comfort ratio. On the last 2 flights to Orange County we were taking service dogs with us. There are a lot of legal definitions of what a service dog is and is not, but we have studied that extensively so you don’t have to. Service dogs are trained for a specific task for a person with a disability. They are not required to let a service dog fly while it is still being trained, but once it has been fully trained to complete a task specific service we are able to act as their handlers for delivery purposes. Both dogs did fantastic in the airports. It is such a different environment that is so difficult to expose them to similar settings. However, we know that it is crucial to their success. We were able to take them through the airport and the big crowds that come with that setting with no issues. We delivered these guys to their new homes. Then we had a bit of fun for the rest of the weekend. We often try to mix business and personal. We often visit other doodles and their families while we are in the area. Sometimes we stop in and do a training session. On the last two trips we spent a day at Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure. These personal additions to our trips really make it so that we do not get burnt out. It also makes us look forward to all the places we will deliver a puppy. We know that all the hard work will end with us meeting new people and getting to have new experiences.
